Bikepacking Gear – Salsa Anything Cage

Options. That’s what the Salsa Anything Cage is all about. As the name suggests, these fork-mounted bikepacking cages let you carry just about anything. They expand your carrying capacity on the bike while maintaining a low profile and secure attachment for handling rough off-road travel. The Salsa Anything Cage has evolved from a simple oversized aluminum water bottle cage to the durable Salsa EXP Series Anything Cage HD pictured here. It’s a lightweight, durable carrying system for attaching varied gear or large bottles of water to your bicycle, and they’ve proven their value on multiple bike packing trips in the last couple of years. They can be used on their own to strap large water bottles to your bike, with your own storage bags or with the burly Salsa Anything Cage Bags pictured. The Salsa bags are perfectly sized to match the cages and have a reinforced base for added durability.

SKS Anywhere MountsNo Fork Mounts. No Problem – SKS Anywhere Mounts

The Salsa Anything Cages mount directly to your fork. If your fork has braze-on mounts, it’s as simple as mounting a water bottle cage. But if you’re fork does not have braze-on mounts, it’s still possible to use the Salsa Anything Cages using the SKS Anywhere Bottle Cage Mounts. I’ve used the SKS Anywhere Mounts to attach the Salsa Anything Cages to my forks for multiple trips, including the Idaho Hot Springs bikepacking route. The SKS mounts were used on two bikes and ridden through rugged terrain for a total of two weeks and nearly 800 miles. They were rock solid for the duration. They never budged or required adjustment. Totally bomber.

Secure. Waterproof. Durable. Salsa EXP Anything Cage Bags

The full Salsa EXP Anything Cage and Anything Bag Kit comes complete with a cage, straps, bags and mounting bolts. The Salsa EXP Anything Bags are essentially custom dry bags that match the cages. Their rubberized material is burly and waterproof, while a reinforced base helps them hold their shape and sit neatly in the cage (or on the ground at camp). A traditional roll-top entry seals them up. Voile strap style straps make for secure attachment. Once packed and strapped, there’s literally no movement or rattling. They’re ready to handle rough roads and single-track trails. Salsa Anything Cage Bikepacking BagsAt 3.35 liters each, the bags hold a decent load. The cages are rated to 3 kg (6.6lbs), so you can load ’em up with reasonably heavy stuff. They’re ideally sized for stove fuel canisters, a classic Jet-Boil stove, dinner supplies and small clothing items. They are easy to access, but it’s really only the top layer that makes for convenient grabbing while mounted to the bike during the day. Access doesn’t require removal. You can simply open the roll top to grab what you need. The Salsa Anything Cage Bags are also 100% waterproof, provided you roll the top correctly, and the durable rubberized material takes scuffs and bumps in stride. They feel like they were designed and tested by people who really go bikepacking.

Durable, Versatile Storage for Any Bike

In addition to being solid, secure and convenient, the Anything Cages set you up for a low center of gravity that gives the bike a nice predictable ride, versus having the weight higher on the frame. They are an easy choice for bikepacking and adventure riding in any terrain.
