I spent the day testing a pair of handcrafted Paranormal Skis in Smithers, BC up at the local ski hill, Hudson Bay Mountain. James at Paranormal has been designing and building skis for about four years in his self-built workshop.
His passion for the design/build process is as impressive as the equipment he has created in his shop. From his ski press to his custom computer-controlled c-n-c machine, the shop speaks to his attention to detail.
He currently has three different ski models. I was able to ski the Weapon – 135-110-125 – an all-around ski with a soft snow bias. It features sidewall construction and five-point design with healthy tip rocker and modest tail rise. Though the snow conditions were a little lackluster, the ski performed great, offering a responsive full ski engagement and handling the mixed-bag conditions with confidence. James does all the graphics, too. Check ’em out at www.paranormalskis.ca
