Everest Ski Descents

Everest Climbed and Skied Without Oxygen

On September 22, 2025, Polish ski mountaineer and Red Bull athlete Andrzej Bargiel climbed and skied Mount Everest without using bottled oxygen, skiing from the summit all the way down below the Khumbu icefall.

The adventure was not Bargiel's first Himalayan expedition. In 2018, he became the first (and only) person to ski down K2, the world’s second-highest peak. His successful Everest ski makes him the only person in history to ski Everest and K2 without supplementary oxygen. Read all the details at Redbull.com.

Everest Hornbein Couloir Skied

Adding to the Everest ski news, on October 14, 2025, American ski mountaineer Jim Morrison successfully skied the Hornbein and Japanese Couloirs on Everest. The bold move makes him the first to ski the route and live to talk about it. French alpinist Marco Siffredi attempted the descent in 2002 but was never seen again after dropping in from the summit. To this day, his body has never been recovered.

Morrison's descent will be the subject of a documentary by Jimmy Chin and National Geographic. Read the full details at National Geographic.

Kilian Jornet Rides and Climbs 14ers

Endurance runner and mountaineer Kilian Jornet set out on a human-powered journey to link and climb all of the 14,000-foot peaks in the United States by foot and by bike in September. Dubbed States of Elevation, the project included 72 summits, over 400,000 vertical feet, 2,500+ miles of cycling and 629 miles of running. It took him 31 days to accomplish what most will never do in a lifetime. Read the full story at Nnormal.com.
