Skiing in Chile

Skiing in the High Andes, Chile photo by Brad Lipovsky

It may be summer here in North America right now, but as the saying goes, it is a powder day somewhere. We just heard from skier Brad Lipovsky, who is in the Southern Andes of Chile where winter is in full swing.

Brad says he has heard some griping from locals about the lack of big storm cycles this season in Chile, but he has found the snow to be great. Look for more from Brad this winter in an article on backcountry skiing in the Southern Andes.

"We were in Chile and it turns out that the High Andes area was the better place to be than the Lakes Region, so this is where we've been ski touring. On this particular ski tour we skinned near the ski resort Valle Nevado, dug in, watched as it snowed over a foot of new snow on top of already great two-day-old powder, and then enjoyed life for a few days."

Thanks for this news, it's excellent. It's fnitastac that we now have more time to enjoy the great powder base up there (since the recent snows). And it's a plus that we've had such wonderfully sunny days lately and can now enjoy them for longer on the slopes.
