Black Diamond AT and Tele Boots

 FACTOR AT BOOTCustom Tele Boot

Black Diamond recently released info on their new boot line and it sounds like we may have a chance to put a few on snow at the trade show in late January.

The AT boots (three models) look like all business for the descent and BD suggests they make no compromise on the touring end. The teles (six models) look clean and straightforward and the release says they have different bellows flex for their different niches, "Each style of boot is designed with either Ridstiff, Midstiff or Freeflex bellows for an optimized level of stiffness and performance", could be nice for touring boots. Here is some more text right from BD's release on the boots and a few more photos . . .

Black Diamond’s all-new line of Freeride boots is going to change the way you ski. Innovative in design, unique in construction, and uncompromising in versatility, these three AT boots and six telemark boots will break down the boundaries between the alpine and backcountry worlds through the exclusive use of BD’s efficient power technology.

Working off of our 19 years in the ski boot business, our talented, internationally experienced R&D team of 15 engineers and designers spent three years creating these ski boots—the finest ever made. From the overlap, triple-density construction, to the boa closure system on the high-performance liners, to being built "ground up" using net shape fit technology, BD's freeride boots are introducing a new level of full-time high performance with anywhere, anytime access.

BD’s freeride boots are divided into Alpine Touring and Telemark, and, within these categories, are further focused into either Efficient or Power Series.

The boots look good. I think I read there are some lighter weight AT boots coming. One thing I would like to see some info on is the BOA long term in a ski boot. I know some people had them in snowboard boots.

Yeah, the line-up looks interesting but a lightweight AT boot seems to be missing in the line - Interesting that both AT boots are Dynafit Compatible. I should learn more at the trade show. Stay Tuned

Yeah I was suprised to not see lighter boots but they assure us that they are as light if no lighter than anything compared to any boots like it. I think the BOA is going to work just fine since it really isn't integral to the boots performance as it really just holds the liner closer to your foot. I guess we will see how they ski when they finally make some sizes that normal North American's can ski(my huge 10.5 foot couldn't fit any of their boots :-) ) I hope to get on them this summer on Mt. Hood when they get them done. Can't wait!!! Cheers...Jarl
