True to its namesake, the new Cloudchaser lift opened to a lifting veil of storm clouds this morning. Most of the east side of Mt. Bachelor was lit up for the opening ceremony, while all lifts west of Pine Marten, including Outback and Northwest, were left under a stormy shroud.
This opening in the clouds is exactly what Tom Lomax, the new chair’s brainchild, had in mind when planning the one of the largest lift expansion at Bachelor: the ability to storm ski on the lee side of the mountain, when the other lifts might not be able to spin due to Bachelor’s notorious wind and rime. Additional fall line acreage will be accessible during Summit operations – a bonus for lift served glade powder hunters.
The Cloudchaser lift adds 635 acres of new terrain and 13 new runs to Bachelor’s 4300+ acres of skiable terrain.
